DESPROGES Pierre

Pierre Desproges (May 9, 1939 – April 18, 1988) was a French humorist. He was born in Pantin, Seine-Saint-Denis. According to himself, he made no significant achievements before the age of 30. From 1967 to 1970, he worked as: life insurance salesman, opinion pool investigator, "lonely hearts" columnist, horse racing forecaster, and sales manager for a styrofoam beam company.

In 1987, doctors discovered he had inoperable lung cancer in an advanced stage, and his relatives, in agreement with the doctors, decided to hide the condition from him, so he could spend his final days quietly. He died in 1988, ironically from a disease he had bitterly laughed at time and time again, often saying "I won't have cancer: I'm against it". His epitaph reads: "Pierre Desproges est mort d'un cancer, étonnant, non ?" ("Pierre Desproges died of cancer, astonishing, isn't it?")

We find in his "Almanac" (1988) a rare saying that applies to his case: "Christmas scanner, Easter at the cemetery" ... Humour often desperate that of the author of "Manuel de savoir-vivre". the use of boors and cowards "(1981)," Let's live happily while waiting for death "(1983), the" Dictionary superfluous for use by the elite and the well-to-do "(1984), or "Chronicles of Ordinary Hatred" (1987). He can be found at Père Lachaise, in front of Chopin (says his friend Jean-Louis Fournier).

I. Natal chart

this chart is problematic: lonely ASC whose ruler, ME, is in conjunction with falling SA; MC in GEMINI; MA is strong (exaltation in CAPRI) but in close conjunction with MO (in exile). SO is succedent ; JU is strong, closely to DSC.
The ALMUTEN is MA.

• HYLEG : JU (i don't think that HYLEG is SU because it is in VIII and MO is in succedente (IV) very unfortunate).
• ALCHOCODEN : MA (with Campanus), but with other system, Placidus, the ALCHOCODEN is SU)
• ANAERETA : SA

The rays shows : conj MA-MO with mundane # (MA,MO) - SU ; conj SU-ME - * MA-JU - QUADR MA - (ME, SA).

VE is exile and therefore, it seems interesting to compute the direction #MA conj VE.

All these directions are mundane converse in the very sense of what Max DUVAL think in its 'Les Moyens de pronostic en astrologie', Ed. Traditionelles, 1986, pp. 31-33. It is perhaps the most important book of the end of the XXe century in the history of astrology.

Finally, we will try to calculate the life with the ALCHOCODEN.

1)- According to the CAMPANUS sytem, the ALCHOCODEN, has said before, is MA, as it contracts a ptolemaïc ray (*) with the HYLEG (JU in my sense). So :

According to the table of Junctinus (from Speculum astrologiae, francisci Junctini comment., p. 354, Lugduni, 1581), we have

MA = 40 years (according to the 'greater years' as MA is exaltation, but MA is 'succeedent')
We must substract :
- conjunction from MO = 66.5/12 (months) as MO is debilitated ('middle years')
- quadra from ME = -48/12 (months) 'middle years' as ME is ruler of ASC
- quadra from SA = -30/12 (months) 'greater years' as SA is debilitated (fall)
and we add :
- sextil from JU = 79/12 (months) 'greater years' as JU is HYLEG

Finally, we obtain D = 40 + 5.54 - 4 - 2.5 + 6.58 = 45.6 years.

I remain very reluctant about the possibility of such a calculation, in the sense of computation. As I remain reluctant about the very mechanical way in which the ancient Arabs, compared to the Greeks, considered astrology. However, I must recognize the great efforts made in recent years as evidenced by, for example, the one made by the designer of the software Astrallis to whom we owe this very precise text: (see :Alcoccoden-nn-pdf  J S Raggio).

2)- According to the PLACIDUS system (and more others), if HYLEG is SU, VE is ALCHOCODEN. So, VE = 45 years.
We must add :
- conjunction from ME = 48/12

So : D = 45 + 4 = 49 years.

Thus we see that the attribution of the ALCHOCODEN varies according to the domification; but the technique of the primary directions also ... However the interest of the determination of the ALCHOCODEN - as well as that of the points marking for the primary directions - is the possibility of an evaluation at sight, almost immediate, when one has some experience. And this is unique to these two methods of prognosis.
