CARDANO'S TWELVE HOROSCOPES
GENITURA II
Hieronymi Cardani (1501-1576)
2. John HAMILTON Bishop of Dunkeld, Archbishop of St. Andrew Born: 1512 - 10h AM Edinburgh
In 1553 the Italian physician Gerolamo Cardano cured him of a disease that had left him speechless and was thought incurable. The diplomat Thomas Randolph recorded the "merry tales" rumoured about his methods still current in Edinburgh nine years later. Cardano himself wrote that the Archbishop had been short of breath for ten years, and after the cure was effected by his assistant, he was paid 1,400 gold crowns.[Cardanus, Gerolamo, De Propria Vita Liber: His Own Life, Amsterdam, (1654), pp.136-7] While the Archbishop was unwell, his brother was persuaded to give up the Regency of Scotland to Mary of Guise.

Scottish prelate and politician, was a natural son of James Hamilton, 1st earl of Arran. At a very early age he became a monk and abbot of Paisley, and after studying in Paris he returned to Scotland, where he soon rose to a position of power and influence under his half-brother, the regent Arran. He was made keeper of the privy seal in 1543 and bishop of Dunkeld two years later; in 1546 he followed David Beaton as archbishop of St Andrews, and about the same time he became treasurer of the kingdom. He made vigorous efforts to stay the growth of Protestantism, but with one or two exceptions “ persecution was not the policy of Archbishop Hamilton, ” and in the interests of the
Roman Catholic religion a catechism called Hamilton's Catechism (published with an introduction by T. G. Law in 1884) was drawn up and printed, possibly at his instigation. Having incurred the displeasure of the Protestants, now the dominant party in Scotland, the archbishop was imprisoned in 1563. After his release he was an active partisan of Mary queen of Scots; he baptized the infant James, afterwards King James VI., and pronounced the divorce of the queen from Bothwell. He was present at the battle of Langside, and some time later took refuge in Dumbarton Castle. Here he was seized, and on the charge of being 'concerned in the murders of Lord Darnley and the regent Murray he was tried, and hanged on the 6th of April 1571. The archbishop had three children by his mistress, Grizzel Sempill. [Chisholm, Hugh, ed. (1911). "Hamilton, John". Encyclopædia Britannica. 12 (11th ed.). Cambridge University Press]
FIGURE II
In 1552 Cardan accepted an offer to go to Scotland to attend John Hamilton, Archbishop of St. Andrews and brother of the regent. [...] John Hamilton/ Archbishop of St. Andrews, was a chief of state in Scotland. He was natural brother to the regent, Pontifical legate and primate. He suffered with periodic . attacks of asthma, recurring, in the beginning, at somewhat lengthy intervals. When he had reached his fortieth year, the interval was reduced to eight days, and death seemed imminent, inasmuch as in twenty- four hours, he was eased by no, or at best by very slight, relief. He repeatedly consulted, but in vain, the court physicians of Charles V, then Emperor, and of Henry, King of France. [...] On leaving, I prescribed a regimen whereby he regained his health after two years. I tarried with him seventy-five days; and after he saw his expectation of being
cured was in the process of realization, Michael, his lord hamberlain, was commissioned to offer me generous inducements to return as private physician to his household, but I did not accept. The Archbishop paid out for this attendance eighteen hundred crowns of gold, of which fourteen hundred came to me. [Hieronymi Cardani Mediolanensis, De propria vita liber, 1643, XXIX, trad. Jean Stoner, Duton, New-York]

An invitation to journey to Scotland to treat Archbishop Hamilton of St. Andrews for a complaint that may have been asthma— one of the few aspects of Cardano's medical activity that has entered standard histories of medicine—allowed him to spend most of 1552 taking a prolonged trip through northern Europe. During this visit he traveled through France, England, Switzerland, and parts of Germany and met with several leading northern European intellectuals [The Clock and the Mirror - GIROLAMO CARDANO AND RENAISSANCE M E D I C I N E, Nancy G. Simisi, p. 5]En 1552, Saturne a passé la conjonction directe avec la Lune et Mars s'approche :
FIGURE III

Addendum from 22/06/2019
We have transformed the LAT (10h) given by Cardano in LMC, so the birth hour is near 10h20 (equation of time : 0h 15 min 10 s and deltaT = 0h 3 min 4 s).
