April 3, 1560 (This is according to Andrea Argoli, Andreæ Argoli D. Marci Serenissimo Annuente Senatu Equitis, In Patavino Lyceo Mathematicas scientias proftendis. De diebus criticis et de ægrorum decubitu libri dvo (Patauij : Apud Paulum Frambottum, 1652), p. 160; ; in the 16th-17th century, astrology was a considered a science; establishing the exact dates of birth and death was extremely important to accurately compose the astrological charts; the latter author, a professor of mathematics at La Sapienza University in Rome, was a contemporary of the cardinal; his genealogy indicates that he was born in 1569).

We find exactly the same result as Morinus : D = 26.54 Regio-Campa (orb -0.04, key PTO)

Here, we find 3 directions (the Morinus one is D = 30.596).

c)- cardinal-priest 1599 : SA conj JU

At this time, it is difficult to say if this ray is good or bad... But, we know that SA is the ruler of MC. The direction is : D =  39.027 (Morinus). It is a regio-campa converse.


d)- episcopate of Palestrina 1606 : MA conj VE

It is the last good direction... The death occurs 2 years later. D = 46.467°.


 The D Placidus of 46.765 is closed to that of Morinus. If we report the ecliptic position of VE, we find :
- with the AR key factor of 1.084 (i.e. arc = 49.87, year = 1609.88) L(VE) = 59.38° TAURUS.
- with the EQU factor of 1.025 (i.e. arc = 47.17, year = 1607.17) L(VE) = 55.99° TAURUS.

The question of the transformation of the direction arcs into a calendar year is not solved ... Morinus thus foresees in his DP options on the subject matter the occurrences of pseudo-astronomical integer, domitude and longitude.

rapt-parallel :


We have computed the Rp SU|SA for Campanus and Regiomontanus. Morinus gives this Rp for Placidus C SU|SA =  48.471, so 1608 (year of death).


We find a Regio Rp = 48.0° for the PTO key convert.

Albert of Saxe-Coburg

Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Francis Albert Augustus Charles Emmanuel;[1] 26 August 1819 – 14 December 1861) 


Hwas the husband and consort of Queen Victoria.
He was born in the Saxon duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, to a family connected to many of Europe's ruling monarchs. At the age of 20, he married his first cousin, Queen Victoria; they had nine children. Initially he felt constrained by his role of consort, which did not afford him any power or responsibilities, but gradually developed a reputation for supporting many public causes, such as educational reform and the abolition of slavery worldwide, and was entrusted with running the Queen's household, office and estates. He was heavily involved with the organisation of the Great Exhibition of 1851, which was a resounding success.
Victoria came to depend more and more on his support and guidance. He aided the development of Britain's constitutional monarchy by persuading his wife to be less partisan in her dealings with Parliament—although he actively disagreed with the interventionist foreign policy pursued during Lord Palmerston's tenure as Foreign Secretary. In 1857, he was given the formal title of Prince Consort.
Albert died at the relatively young age of 42, plunging the Queen into deep mourning. On her death in 1901, their eldest son succeeded as Edward VII, the first British monarch of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, named after the ducal house to which Albert belonged.

The table above shows the results for all types of primary directions. In particular, the arc of zodiacal direction D Regio-Campa D = 41.59, and that the arc of the mundane direction Placidus in converse is D = 41.86. However, it is not easy to make an easy synthesis with this table, which is purely analytical. The table below tries to obviate this defect: in particular, it gives the synthesis of the directions in zodiacal, mundane, by key of conversion and by variety of direction.

 It is easier here to make comparisons; For reasons of space, I had to arrange two boards end to end one below the other. However, the upper table shows two zodiacal directions in D Placidus (not AR) and the other in D Regio-Campa (not EQU). The other table is the same synthesis for the mundane directions. There are three directions +, two in EQU (for D Placidus and D regio-Campa). The arcs corresponding to these directions are indicated on the right, in a small annexed table.

b)- use of "fictitious" directions

In order to make comparisons, I had to use directions other than the true primary directions: these are the directions in AR (which are recognized by some astrologers as "valid", as Max Duval), directions in AO (Which were used by astrologers such as Lilly) or the Goldmayer directions (which are some kind of symbolic global direction, little known by astrologers and of which Max Duval considers the value questionable, but HJ Gouchon seemed to recognize some interest in them). Finally, I do not insist on the symbolic directions (attention: I did not misunderstand that the directions of the MC are almost identical to the symbolic directions, "almost" ...) ; 



In order to make comparisons I was obliged to make two tables that overlap with those of the directions deemed "real", zodiacal and mundane directions. For this, I had to use in the 1st table a "classic" conversion key (arc x key) and in the other, a more exotic one by using the key x date conversion key. The working hypothesis, which in terms of statistics we call the null hypothesis, is to say that, all things being equal, we will find as many "real" directions as "fictitious" directions.

 The table is obvious to read; This is an example. It will take many cases like this to determine whether or not a significant difference is revealed!

2)- analysis for previous direction :  Sa // Me

 In other analyses, I had not been able to fully exploit the arcs of primary directions. Indeed, Max Duval gives a method that is too inspired by that of the zodiacal directions to be truly exploitable; I had to use Makranski's algorithms. However, these require a lot of attention to the management of semi-arcs and other arcs of type (tm-ts). A sign error leads to aberrations!


 We see two mundane directions corresponding to arcs D and C Placidus.
These arcs correspond to the following directions:


for the D Placidus arc = 42.29 converted in years folloing AR = 0.919



 and for the C Placidus = 42.92 converted in years (following AR = 1.088 (1/length SU).

Here is another typical converse zodiacal direction: #Sa conj Lu D = 41.25 (AR key) with latitude.

 While the Morinus software indicates only one type of direction compatible with the event, the table allows, as I said above, to analyze all directions in one piece.... You will see below the same table concerning the "fictitious" directions (see above for an explanation).

 Of course, for such a small number of cases, it is not possible to use an appropriate statistical tool 'even the non parametric ones); However, we show the way to an appropriate statistical evaluation of primary directions: the comparison between a homogeneous group of management deemed "giving results" and another group deemed "placebo".

'The demanding standards of excellence took their toll and he had a mild seizure in May 1973. On 20 July 1973 while at the apartment of an actress friend discussing the possibility of her co-starring in a movie with him, he suffered a severe headache. When he stretched out on her bed, she offered him the prescription drug Equagesic for his pain. Shortly after the actress friend tried to shake him awake, thinking he looked too still while he slept. When Lee didn't respond, she called Chow who was awaiting their arrival at a restaurant. Chow told her to call an ambulance and rushed back over arriving at the same time as medics who were getting no signs of life. Artificial respiration was attempted but Lee didn't respond. At Queen Elizabeth Hospital, a pair of doctors massaged his heart and stimulated it with an injection but nothing helped. Lee was declared dead an hour after he arrived. First reports indicated that Lee suffered a cerebral hemorrhage brought on by the Equagesic. Since he hadn't taken enough to do more than cause an upset stomach an inquest was held. The coroner testified that Lee may have died of cannabis poisoning because traces of "pot" were discovered in the actor's stomach and intestines. Friends and associates maintain that Lee was murdered and theories range from angry Elders of the Manchu Dynasty to the CIA and jealous film rivals bumping him off.'  Il est hautement probable que Bruce Lee ait été victime d'une hémorragie cérébrale. Examinons son thème :


  • essaim SCORPIO (Lune, Mars, Vénus) ;
  • opposition de cet essaim au groupe Saturne, Jupiter (Taurus) ;
  • ASC SAGITARRIUS (maître Jupiter) en conj. serrée avec Soleil ;
étoiles : DENEBOLA conj MC (GEMINI) - ALPHECCA conj Lune (domitude 328° Campanus, opp avec Jupiter)

Morinus indique ALMUTEN = VENUS (Venus est en exil...)

Le thème est problématique : très resserré ; opposition entre Saturne, Jupiter et Lune, Mars. Plusieurs planètes en maisons cadentes. La carte des domitudes confirme ce caractère astringent :

La 1ère direction est celle de Saturne à l'opposition de l'ASC ; elle sera suivie des directions inter-planétaires entre Soleil-Saturne et Soleil-Jupiter ; on notera qu'en 1970 Bruce Lee a été victime d'un accident qui l'a tenu au lit pendant 6 mois...

Remarquez que les directions aux axes posent d'emblée la question de savoir si l'arc est direct ou convers ; en effet, l'ASC (ou le MC) n'ont qu'un seul mouvement possinle qui est évidemment inverse au primum mobile (on n'a jamais vu la voûte céleste se « mouvoir » d'Ouest en Est). Par conséquent, on est obligé si la planète se situe après son lever (ou après son coucher) d'utiliser un arc convers : autrement dit, les directions aux axes sont directes avant le lever ou le coucher ; elles sont converses dans le cas contraire (idem pour le MC : directes avant le passage au méridien, converses après le méridien). Remarquez encore que cela vaut pour ma façon de voir qui consiste à considérer que le prumum mobile est le mouvement direct. D'autres praticiens considèrent le mouvement direct comme le sens du mouvement propre des planètes...

a)- Saturne opp. AS


L'équation est : OAm-OAdsc où OAm = 50.03° et OADsc = 78.58° ; l'arc de direction est :

D = 29.21° correspondant à 1969 ;

b)- Soleil opp. Saturne



Nous montrons le thème in mundo ; le calcul des directions apparaît sur le tableau suivant (on a ajouté les arcs en AR et en OA); voici d'abord le relevé des paramètres utilisés :





Il s'agit d'un tableau de synthèse où sont indiqués les résultats pour les directions Placidus et Regio-Campanus, à la fois, en direct, en convers et pour les pas ptolémée, AR et EQU (ici ces deux derniers peuvent ête calibrés en fraction inverse ou non). Les + indiquent les directions coïncidant avec l'orbe retenu (en l'occurrence ± 1 an). Les arcs négatifs sont une particularité  intéressante des algorithmes de B. Makranski [Primary Directions, A Primer of Calculation, Bob Makransky, www.dearbrutus.com, 1988 © M J Makransky] ; le tableau suivant emploie les arcs AR et EQU en fraction inverse :


L'avantage de ce tableau est d'offrir une synthèse permettant un travail statistique ultérieur. rien jusqu'à présent n'indique, en effet, une efficience quelconque d'un système par rapport à un autre... Je n'ai pas encore fait figurer les arcs correspondant aux directions Goldmayer.

c)- Soleil conj Mars


Je ne fais apparaître que la partie inférieure du tableau :


On remarque en orbe 1 arc en convers, pas AR.

d)- Soleil opp Jupiter


C'est peut-être la direction la plus importante, compte tenu de l'opposition entre Mars et Jupiter.

Remarquez que les directions « congruentes » sont en convers, en pas AR (1/pas AR) et en Placidus. Les deux derniers tableaux résument les facteurs de conversion employés et les années de vie selon ces mêmes facteurs de conversion. Il y a lieu d'en tenir compte lorsqu'on met en parralèle les arcs de direction convertis ET les années de vie. La direction à retenir ici est donc : C opp Ju conj So (i.e. convers opposition Jupiter conjonction Soleil), ce qui est typique d'une direction converse vraie au sens où pouvaient l'entendre les anciens astrologues.

Conclusion


Nous avons conçu un outil - loin d'être parfait - mais qui permet déjà de réaliser des statistiques pour des types variés de direction primaire, avec des facteurs de conversion multiples. Désormais, les prochains travaux devraient bénéficier de cet environnement.

Worsdale (2)

Samuel Portwood


Samuel Portwood Was Born at Donington near Spalding lincolnshire, on the 5th of Jane 1790, 18h. 55m. P. M. he was the Son of William Portwood, Farmer of that place. In the month of October 1821, this young Man ( with whom I was well acquainted) applied to me and gave me the above time of his Birth, requesting me to calculate his Nativity, which I performed, and delivered the Figure, and Directions to him including my impartial Judgment thereon; he had a little knowledge of this Science which he had obtained from my Books, and Papers, and appeared confident that the given time of his Birth was correct, of which I have no doubt, as the nature of the primary Directions is confirmed by the preceding events of his life. He told me that he had gained considerably by Land jobbing, and was very lucky, though the Moon, and Saturn, in the Mid heaven, he thought, should have given something far different, according to the Works of all those Authors he had read on this Science; he further observed with a smile, that the evil conjunction of the Moon, and Saturn in the Zenith, could do him no harm, because by their different Latitude, they were far distant from each other, and Jupiter was posited in the second House, with the Lion’s Heart; I told him that all his observations were founded on error, as other Astral Causes of a different nature, were the Auxiliaries of his success, which would continue but a short time, when Land jobbing, and Life would be no more, for I never knew the least portion of durable good to flow from a Treasury of evil; 1 also informed him that though he had many Books, Papers, and documents of mine in his possession, which I expected he would peruse to the time of his Death, yet there was one that surpassed all others, on which the following words were written.—" Prepare to meet thy God, for soon thou shall surely Die ” [John Worsdale, Celestial philosophy, p. 90, Longmann, 1828 ]

On relève in mundo un # Mars - Vénus. La Lune est considérée par Worsdale comme hyleg, auquel cas l'alcocoden est Mars. En même temps, on doit considérer que le lieu anérète peut être trouvé dans l'opposition de Mars. Par ailleurs, on remarque que la Lune et Saturne ont leur # situé à 29° Pisces.


Les aspects de contre-antisce sont inscrits sur la carte natale.

 Nous allons considérer le système Placidus puis le système Campanus :

a)- Placidus




Deux directions « miroir » sous forme de // Venus à Saturne (axe MC/FC) et du groupe Saturne, Lune // à Vénus. On remarque une « ébauche » de rapt-parallel entre le Soleil et le groupe Saturne, Lune.

b)- Campanus





Ici, l'on remarque beaucoup plus nettement d'une part le rapt-parallel de {Sa, Lu} au Soleil ; d'autre part le # du So à Mars. De fait, on relève une opposition entre {Sa, Lu} et Mars. Il semble difficilement envisageable de trouver une autre configuration dans ce thème qui soit plus critique que celle-là.

2)- directions in zodiaco


Nous allons envisager les directions en sens direct pour nous (mais qui apparaîtront à beaucoup comme en sens convers...).



On remarque l'analogie évidente entre les directions zodiacales et mondiales, en Campanus. On retrouve l'image du rapt-parallel {Sa, Lu} et la coïncidence avec le // Mars conj. au Soleil. Nous allons calculer cette direction :

La direction cherchée est l'arc convers du // Mars à la conjonction du Soleil, ce qui s'écrit en système Campanus :

  • A est l'angle du méridien supérieur correspondant à l'horizon de pôle p, avec le méridien supérieur natal (ici, le pôle du point mobile qui est de 45,587° en Campanus) ; apofix n'est libellé ainsi que par convention parce qu'il correspond à un paramètre de mon programme qui est variable, selon que l'arc recherché est de sens direct ou convers ;
  • B est le semi-arc diurne du point mobile correspondant à un horizon de pôle p, qui est le cercle de position du point fixe ; B est un semi-arc fixe dans tous les cas ; ici c'est le contraire parce que l'arc est calculé en convers (cf. supra) :
  • A noter que arf-ts doit toujours être positif (ajouter 360° si nécessaire, ce qui est le cas ici) :
  • A = tan (45,587°)/tan(52,9°) = 39.47°
  • B = -tan(26.047°) x tan(10.608°) = 101.021°
  • D = |(25.56 - 358.615)+360° + 39.47 - 101.021)| = 34,6°

  • ce qui correspond à peu près à 34 ans et 7 mois.
    En système Placidus , on a :
dmmd est la distance méridienne du point mobile (diurne), sadf le semi-arc diurne du point fixe et sadm, le semi-arc diurne du point mobile ; il s'agit là d'une équation Placidus en convers.

D = (25.56-74.407)+75.792 x (1-104.34/123.56) = 37.055°

Nous notons par ailleurs que le calcul de la direction Placidus en utilisant les distances horaires est absolument identique à cette équation : on trouve :

D = |3.68 - 1.549| x 17.39 = 37,05° (on prend l'heure temporelle Htd du significateur et non du prometteur puisqu'on considère l'arc convers).

L'arc Campanus paraît plus juste que l'arc Placidus... A voir sur d'autres cas.

3)- réflexions sur l'hyleg et l'anérète


Morinus considère que l'almuten est représenté par le Soleil. Au vu des directions que nous avons analysées, on peut considérer que l'hyleg est bien ici représenté par le Soleil. L'anérète est représenté par Mars ; on peut toutefois considérer que le duo Lune-Saturne ne fait pas bon ménage à une si grande proximité du MC... Il y a un autre point à considérer : c'est le mouvement propre de la Lune, qui n'est séparée que d'un degré en radix de Saturne ; précisément, la Lune parcourt 1.123° (soit : 01:6.8 min d'arc). Cela dispose la Lune en quasi-conjonction de longitude zodiacale avec Saturne ; il s'agit donc ici d'une direction primaire progressée qui s'écrit :

D = |4.53 - 4.628| = 0.098, soit 23,5 sec.d'arc.

4)- réflexions sur la conversion des arcs en temps


Nous avons intégré un module qui permet d'évaluer quel est le facteur de conversion le plus approprié, par rapport à un étalon : le pas de Ptolémée.

Ainsi peut-on voir ci-dessus un tableau donnant les « concordances de temps » dans une fourchette que nous avons ainsi calibrée : fact. conv. = pto ± 0.1 x 0.09, avec une fenêtre [0.955 - 1.045]. Cette fenêtre contient bien sûr les facteurs de conversion habituels. Ainsi, dans le cas de la direction en convers  B M XE , nous observons que la moyenne donne 0.982 (le pas Naibod est de 0.986). On remarque, par exemple, que la direction Goldmayer en Placidus, qui est de  :

D = |Dom Plac p - Dom plac m| = 31.9°

conduit à un facteur de conversion de 1.04 (en moyenne) ce qui le rapproche du pas equat. (1/0.956), compte tenu que la vitesse de déplacement du Soleil sur l'écliptique est de 0°57'21".

5)- direction Lune-Mars

Nous disions tout-à-l'heure que Mars et la Lune étaient liés dans ce thème ; que l'alcocoden pouvait être Mars mais que ô surprise, Mars pouvait aussi être anérète ! Le thème de domitude Campanus dirigé montre très clairement la présence d'une direction Lune-Mars ; nous allons la calculer :

Morinus présente une carte qui ne fait pas valoir que la direction est converse ; en effet, la carte donne à penser que la direction est zodiacale directe.

Ici, nous remarquons que le facteur de conversion est nettement déporté vers 1.03, ce qui renvoie au pas AR (1/AR plus exactement) et equatorial (1/equ). Notons le résultat positif en direction Goldmayer Campa (à 33.5°).
