CLEMENT VII

Pope Clement VII

(26 May 1478 – 25 September 1534), born Giulio di Giuliano de Medici, was Pope from 19 November 1523 to his death in 1534. The Sack of Rome and English Reformation occurred during his papacy.

[Gauricus, 20 - Junctinus, 120a]

On 7 November (1533), in Marseille, Pope Clement created four new cardinals, all four of them French. He held private meetings with both Francis I and Charles V, though separately. He returned to Rome on 10 December, complaining of stomach problems, and showing a fever. This was not a new illness. The Pope had been so ill at the beginning of August that Cardinal Agostino Trivulzio wrote to King Francis that the Pope's doctors had begun to fear that the Pope was in danger of dying.

1)- natal chart

On the Astrodients site, it is marked that Clement VII was born at 14h. Now, both Gauricus and Junctinus give 9:30. I have kept this hour.

  • ASC LEO, ruler SU (XI)
  • SA (I)
  • MC TAURUS, ruler VE (XI), JU (X)
  • MO (VIII)
Morinus gives JU for almuten (and VE for ruler) ; so :

- HYLEG : JU
- ALCOCODEN : VE
- ANAERETE : MO

We see that both MA and SA are detrimental.

2)- primary directions

In 1534, we have C MO opp ASC

- C MO opp ASC. D = |OA(opp MO)-OA(ASC)| = 181.408°- 123.868° = 57.54°.

There are other aspects. Notably mundane C MO # MA.

a)- search zodiacal #MA  - the Campanus domitude of MA is 63.03°. So the mundane #MA which interest us is at domitude 296.96° (X). The zodiacal longitude corresponding is #MA  63.237° GEM (with a + latitude of 0.174° because it is a #) . We can compute the direction : C MO conj #MA ; it is a converse arc.
b)- we have to take care of the proper motion of MO, because given that technically it is the MO that is promissor, this movement is retrograde. So, L(MO) = 359.1°- 1.984°
c)- result :

We have 2 directions C Regio-Campa and C Placidus and both 2 fictitious arc (Goldmayer Regio and Goldmayer Placidus).

We have another mundane direction : C SA # JU.

a)- compute mundane #JU :  the mundane Campanus domitude #JU is = 134.45° (V). The zodiacal longitude corresponding is : 206.96 LIB. It is very important to understand that it is a true converse direction. So we have the result :

b)- result

See that we have 2 converse Regio-Campa and Placidus directions. We have also 2 fictitious arcs (Symb and AR).

ARGOLI (2)

 SIXSTVS V

Pope Sixtus V or Xystus V (13 December 1521 – 27 August 1590), born Felice Peretti di Montalto, ruled from 24 April 1585 to his death in 1590. As a youth, he joined the Franciscan order, where he displayed talents as a scholar and preacher, and enjoyed the patronage of Pius V, who made him a cardinal.

As Pope, he energetically rooted out corruption and lawlessness across Rome, and launched a far-sighted rebuilding programme that continues to provoke controversy, as it involved the destruction of antiquities. The cost of these works was met by heavy taxation that caused much suffering. His foreign policy was regarded as over-ambitious, and he excommunicated both Elizabeth I of England and Henry IV of France. He is recognized as a significant figure of the Counter-Reformation.

Felice Peretti was born on 13 December 1521 at Grottammare, in the Papal States, to Pier Gentile (also known as Peretto Peretti), and Marianna da Frontillo. His family was poor. Felice later adopted Peretti as his family name in 1551, and was known as "Cardinal Montalto". He himself claimed that he was "nato di casa illustre".

[Argoli, DDC, 148]

It will be understood that the time of birth is not assured (it is denoted D in Astrodients).

  • ASC CAPRI, ruler SA (I)
  • MC SCORPIO, ruler MA (I)
  • VE detrimental (exile) - MO cadent (weak) - SU cadent (weak) - JU in fall. The interpretation of the conjunction of CSA to JU is tricky; usually it is a very favorable aspect but here it can not be ensured for events affecting health.
- HYLEG : ASC, JU
- ANAERETE : MO, VE
- ALCOCODEN : SA

Morinus gives SA for ALMUTEN

The primary directions :

1)- We have a progressed primary arc with // MO conj ASC, JU by proper motion :

- //MO : 277°13'24" CAPRI (lat 4°45'02").
- lunar motion for 69 years : 2.886° (length MO 15°18'51") ; so : -2.886° because it is a parallel which has a retrograde motion
So : the arc is D = 274,15 (JU) - 274.34 (D MO progr.) = 0.19° for 1590.

2)- we have another ray : SA opp VE

We have a D Regio-Campa direction.

After a brief term as procurator of his order, he was attached to the Spanish legation headed by Ugo Cardinal Boncampagni (later Pope Gregory XIII) in 1565, which was sent to investigate a charge of heresy levelled against Bartolomé Carranza, Archbishop of Toledo. The violent dislike he conceived for Boncampagni exerted a marked influence upon his subsequent actions. He hurried back to Rome upon the accession of Pius V, who made him apostolic vicar of his order, and, later (1570), cardinal.

- VE conj SU (1571)

We find 2 zodiacal and 2 mundane directions. We find also 2 AO directions.

Though not neglecting to follow the course of affairs, Felice carefully avoided every occasion of offence. This discretion contributed not a little to his election to the papacy on 24 April 1585, with the title of Sixtus V. The story of his having feigned decrepitude in the conclave, in order to win votes, is pure invention. One of the things that commended his candidacy to certain cardinals may have been his physical vigour, which seemed to promise a long pontificate.

This election is marked by the conjunction SU to MC : D = |ts-AR(SU)| = 208.4-271.13 = 62.72°. by pooling the key factors, we obtain (orb ± 0.5) :
pas AR pas eclip Naibod Ptolemy Cardano

63,68

64,100 63,679
63,647
0 1 1 0 1 3

So, D = 63.68 (1584.7).

About 1552 he was noticed by Cardinal Rodolfo Pio da Carpi, Protector of the Franciscan order, Cardinal Ghislieri (later Pope Pius V) and Cardinal Caraffa (later Pope Paul IV), and from that time his advancement was assured. He was sent to Venice as inquisitor general, but was so severe and conducted matters in such a high-handed manner that he became embroiled in quarrels. The government asked for his recall in 1560.

This advancement, in 1552, is the true beginning of his ecclesiastical career.

- SA conj MA (alcocoden conjunction ruler of MC)

 2 rays : C Regio-Campa and  C Placidus.

VI

FARNESE Alessandro (1468-1549)

See Paulus III.

In link with the developments I have recently introduced, I add here two converse direction #MO conj. SA and mirroring #SA conj MO. This direction is mundane; we must first find the zodiacal longitude corresponding to the mundane position of #MO (318 ° domitude Campanus). The computation is then treated as usual.

Recall for this natal chart :
  • HYLEG : SU
  • ALCHOCODEN : MO
  • ANAERETE : SA
Morinus finds that ALMUTEN is JU. However, it is found that MA, JU and SA are in detriment in this theme.

recall : the table shows the set of parallels according to the ASC-DSC axis and the MC-IC axis;
for the three main systems of houses (Campanus, Regio and Placidus); the method consists
by first computing the mundane mid-point between promissor and significator; then computing
the direction in AO with respect to the ASC or AR in relation to the MC. The corresponding
longitudes are also computed. The same computation is also made on control arcs, which are called fictitious methods. The results obtained are compared. For the comparison to be of good quality, it is necessary to wait for at least thirty matches matched.

Be careful in this case to the fact that the Moon has a proper motion and a high latitude. If we take no latitude, the results vary a lot and if we take no proper motion, there is 0 result !

method diff Rp fictitious
AR 35,59 99,588
AO 34,69 77,002
SYMB 32,38 101,958

The fictitious Rp is thus computed : for instance,

Rp (AR) = (Arf-ARm)/2+Arm-{rai ; long_asc} ± 360 (if result < 0),

where Arf and Arm are the RA of promissor and significator, rai ot long_asc are the AR of IC or ASC (depending on whether the Rp is rotated  to the ASC-DSC or MC-IC axis. We remove 360 ° if necessary. Hence, we see that, in this case Rp AR = 99.58°.
In this way, it is evident that there is always - for a given date - a rapt parallel between two points which can be computed.

The result is then compared between the two methods (DIR and fictitious) by using the key transformers. We use the mean of the result.
