Miss Ann (Worsdale 178)

Miss Ann (Worsdale 178)

This nativity is from the Celestial Philosophy of Worsdale (p.178); this is a young woman born in Lincoln County on May 4, 1803, at 7:40 am She died on May 11, 1822 at the age of 19 years. Worsdale is concerned with the choice of the hyleg by refuting the usual choice that most people make with the ASC. Concerning this theme, Worsdale finds that the hylegial dignity is on VE. Worsdale studied several directions involving VE, notably // SA in mundo, VE □ MA in zodiaco and VE // SA in zodiaco.

I. Natal chart

We find with Morinus that the ALMUTEN is VE [Ibn-Ezra, Omar]. Hence, SUN, or MO can't be HYLEG, being in cadent and succeedent. MA and JU are debilitated. But we find too that VE is exile (ARI)... If we take Lilly, the ALMUTEN is MA.
Finally, we must carefully monitor the directions of MA.

C. □SU conj SA

Here we have a mundane converse square : □SU.

1. parameters

Observe that latitude is null (SU is on the ecliptic...). The latitude of a zodiacal square is classically null (if we take the formula :

 l(z) = degres(atan[cos(radians(ray)) * tan(radians(lat(X))])

where ray is the distance (0° - 60° - ...) and X the planet. Moreover, there is a difference between the length of a zodiacal square (90°) and a mundane square. Here, the mundane □SU = 99.99°.

CAROLUS V (3)

CAROLUS V (3)

See :

I come back again to the natal chart of CAROLUS V, in connection with a more precise birth time, found in the Astronomicum Caesareum at Apianus: 16:40; Moreover having further developed my technique of research of the direct sense or converse of the directions, it allows me to propose results which seem to me more elaborate. I first recall this excerpt from Apianus :

and here is the Carolus V's genitura extracted from the Astrologiae ratione and experientia refutatae liber ... by Hemminga, Sixtus (Antverpia, 1583) p. 29.

I. Natal chart

The hyleg is SU (in Campanus but VE is probably the ALMUTEN). MA is debilitated (TAU) in spite of angular (VII). MO is saturated with Saturnine rays and also exchanges a mundane square with SA. The conjunction ME-JU is not good, because ME is debilitated (PIS). VE (exalt) and JU are strong, notably JU.

Morinus put MA for ALMUTEN in spite of its bad celestial condition (VE has quiet similar score see : Ibn-Ezra, Omar and Lilly).

C. MO opp MA

the proper lunar motion associated with the indication of the MO as significator may seem contradictory; it is in fact a converse direction as we see it in the results.

D. square SA conj VE

the mundane square of SA applies to the conjunction of MO; we compute the direction of VE at the conjunction of the square of SA in mundo.

- domitude Campanus SA : 82.79°
- mundane square to ASC : 352.79°
- L(z) mundane square = 273.87° CAPR with latitude (cf. Max Duval 'Les Moyens de pronostic en astrologie', Ed. Traditionnelles, 1985)

conclusion

At the end of this study, we observe primary directional arcs exchanged between the principal points determined a priori (MA, VE, SU). Several uncertainties remain, which can only be solved by statistics:
Why in certain themes direct directions, why in other subjects are the converse directions are operative? It could be that the relative size of the houses is a beginning of answer ...

Ferguson Maria (Worsdale 146)

Ferguson Maria

This is another example given by John Worsdale [Celestial Philosophy, 146]. This young woman was born on October 28, 1808 and was found drowned on July 12, 1825. Some reflections of Worsdale on this natal chart:

Nativity of Maria Ferguson

'In this Nativity, the alarming testimonies which indicate a violent Death, are many; the Moon is afflicted by the Opposition of Mars, from cadent stations, and is also in Square with Mercury, who is of the nature and power of both the Malefics. The Sun, the giver of life, is near violent fixed Stars, in the Watery Sign Scorpio, and applying to the Parallel of Saturn's declination, and also to his Body in the Zodiac, and Mundo; he is likewise afflicted by the Rapt Parallel of Mars, and Mundane Parallel of the Moon, and according to his radical position, as he descends towards the Western Angle, by the Motion of the Primum Mobile; he applies to the Mundane Parallel of Mars, both by Direct, and Converse Motion. The Part of Fortune is also posited in the Watery Sign Cancer, in Mundane Square to Saturn, Venus, and Mercury. Jupiteris afflicted by the Opposition of Mars, and also by his Parallel of  Declination, and Venus is conjoined with Saturn, and Mercury in a violent part of the Heavens; so that both the Luminaries, and the benefics are afflicted at the time of Birth; all these are configurations of a most malignant Nature, and as all the Celestial Bodies, except Mars, are in Watery Signs, it is evident that Drowning would be the Cause of her Death, which took place at the time I have stated above.' [Celestial philosophy, 152, London, 1828]

I. Natal chart

There is close opposition between MA and JU, also with MO but less tight. The ruler of the ASC is MA which is in cadent house (VI).

The ALMUTEN (algorithm from Omar) seems to be VE. The ALCHOCODEN is MA (from Ptolemy). However, it seems rather strange to me that a planet in exile (SCO) can claim the title of ALMUTEN ... So that, I prefer this list :

- HYLEG SU
- ANAERETA SA
- ALCHOCODEN MA

So, we must focus on finding directions involving MA, VE and SA.
