Wentworth Thomas

Wentworth Thomas

(13 April 1593 (O.S.) – 12 May 1641) was an English statesman and a major figure in the period leading up to the English Civil War. He served in Parliament and was a supporter of King Charles I. From 1632–40 he was Lord Deputy of Ireland, where he established a strong authoritarian rule. Recalled to England, he became a leading advisor to the King, attempting to strengthen the royal position against Parliament. When Parliament condemned him to death, Charles signed the death warrant and Wentworth was executed.

His nativity appears in John Gadbury's A Collection of Nativities ... (London, 1662), p. 43.

We see the birth hour in new style : April 23, 1593 at 2:22 PM (London)

I. Natal chart

 ASC lonely (VIR, ruler ME) and MC (GEM, ruler ME) - VE in X - ME and SU in VIII, close conjunction - Note that SA is in exile (CAN) and JU (fall) is opposed to SA - SA and (ME, SU) are in mundane // , and so JU is in mundane # with (ME, SU). Finally, MA forms with the group (ME, SU) a real square since at the same time mundane and zodiacal.

Omar gives  VE as ALMUTEN and the HYLEG is ME. SU and MO can't be HYLEG (because of bad rays and of the house position). A lot of planets are debilitated with exception of  ME and VE. If we take VE as ALCHOCODEN, we have :

D = 45 Y (48).

II. Primary directions

A. The faite of destiny :

1629, Wentworth became a privy counselor. In January 1632, he was made Lord Deputy of Ireland.

Arx tarpeia capitoli proxima

 Observe the conjunction of SA to VE and the therefore opposition of JU : typical of the outbreak of an era that can be resolved only by tragic outcome. We note also the conj MC to SU.

 D --> VE conj SA and we have the same direction in direct and converse sens.

B. September1639 :

Wentworth was recalled to England . He was expected to help sort out the problems that were growing at home: namely, bankruptcy and war with the Scottish Covenanters, and became the king's principal adviser.

 We have the two following directions that are notably contradictory :
- SA conj MC
- C VE conj SU, with the problematic ray to opposition (SA-JU).

1. SA conj MC

D = ARSA - TS = |111.02 - 67.02| = 44 Y (1637) PTO. (recall : birth hour non rectified !).

2. VE conj SU

C. 1641 : execution

Strafford met his fate two days later (10 May 1641) on Tower Hill, receiving the blessing of Archbishop Laud (Laud would also be imprisoned in the Tower and executed on 10 January 1645). He was executed before a crowd estimated, probably with some exaggeration, at 300,000 on 12 May 1641...

This direction is a perfect example of a converse arc : contrary to what one might think, it is in no way a pre-natal direction; the direction is taken under the pole of MO, instead that in the previous example, it is taken under the pole of VE.
