Henri II de Montmorency

Henri II de MONTMORENCY

(30 April 1595 – 30 October 1632)

was a French nobleman and military commander. He was beheaded in Toulouse's town hall 30 October 1632, by a guillotine-like device (according to the memoirs of Jacques, vicomte de Puysegur )

His horoscope is analyzed by Morin de Villefranche in Astrologia gallica (liber XVII, 401). Cf. also traduction by James Holden, p. 62 sq.

I. Natal chart

As said by Morin :

  'Indeed, [...] Jupiter and Venus, rulers of the ASC and MC, were conjunct, and these planets were signifying men who were famous, strong, warlike, high-born, generous, liberal, and fortunate in their actions, which they were down to the time of their violent death; but for both of them, both Lights were rulers of the 8th, and Saturn was afflicted in the 8th, which signified for both of them a violent death and a public one on account of the Lights. [...] Venus, the ruler of the MC and the Sun, posited in her own exaltation and conjoined to Jupiter, ruler of the ASC and Mars in Pisces, is the very evident cause of the above said good fortune.' [Astrologia gallica, liber XVII, pp. 61 sq, trad. J.Holden]

But, there are boots in this figure... Because, we see a mundane square between MA and SU and a week opposition between MO and SA. SA is debilitated (LEO).
 The ALMUTEN is VE (or JU according to Lilly).

For the primary directions, we must consider the rays from VE.

II. Primary directions

A. VE conj □MA

 Observe that SU is doubly debilitated by celestial configuration and accidental disposition, being in square with MA radix. We know that SU is not 'good' by itself and that it 'reflects' the nature of the planetary rays.

1. parameters

You will see below the summary table indicating the date when the maximum latitude of MA (PM) is reached (JUN 1 1595) to determine i inclination ( i = 2.08). From i, we compute the longitude of the ascending node (☊ = 23.31 ARI) and then the distance of the node to the ray. Here, it is the square of MA ( mundane 90 °) which is worth in zodiacal basis 68.35 °. The latitude is l (□) = + 0.58 °.

This table summarizes what Morin de Villefranche gives in his latitudes Tabula correctiones (Astrologia gallica, XXII, section 2, pp. 550-551).

3. result

D --> Z D Regio-Campa -0.01.

B. MO opp MC

It is a converse direction.

1. parameters

2. analysis

3. result

D --> M C Regio-Campa -0.29.

C. MA opp MC

This direction -perhaps the very one - is to put in relation with the previous square of the group JU-VE to MA and the opposition of MO to MC. Indeed, one obtains a true interlacing reflecting the aspects radix, in particular the mundane square MA-SU and the zodiacal square of SU to MO.

D =

Conclusion

Morin de Villefranche compares in volume 17 of the Astrologia gallica the natal chart of Gustav Adolph, king of Sweden, and the duke of Montmorency. There is indeed a similar direction: that of MA to the MC axis. (MA conj MC for Gustav-Adolp ans MA opp MC in the case of Montmorency...)
